GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

You will develop and oversee the Museum’s global social media strategy, reaching an audience of approximately 12 million people across several platforms. Partnering with curators, conservators, librarians, art historians, researchers, and other Met staff, you will publish and moderate content on all of the Museum’s official social media channels and lead innovation and adoption of the latest best practices. Working collaboratively with colleagues in Marketing, Communications, and the Digital Content team, you will develop a social media plan that aligns with the broader institutional content strategy and positions The Met as welcoming and relevant.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:


  • Develop and oversee the Museum’s social media strategy and content plan as part of the overall institutional content strategy.
  • Plan and implement innovative and creative programs to grow follower base, increase traffic to The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters and to our digital content, and foster community engagement.
  • With the Social Media Producers, create, edit, review, and approve content as needed, including individual posts, scripts, videos, promotional content, and more.
  • Manage and monitor The Met’s followers and commenters on all social media channels. Listen and respond to users, as appropriate, and solicit, interpret, and circulate feedback.
  • Serve as in-house expert for social media and digital marketing trends, cultivating strong internal relationships with staff and serving as an advisor and advocate with the Board and senior leadership.
  • Serve as a key member of the crisis communications team alongside Communications, Marketing, HR, Security, VX, and other internal leaders.
  • Research and engage creators and other potential content partners to broaden The Met’s social reach.
  • Oversee and provide strategy, guidance, and training to staff who manage The Met’s departmental Instagram accounts.
  • Analyze and report on user activity data; develop the Museum’s understanding of visitors’ behavior and their connections to us online.
  • Manage the social media team (two full-time staff positions, seasonal interns, agencies).

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in social media production and strategy
  • Managerial experience required.
  • Exceptional writing, copy editing, and project management skills
  • Basic HTML, Photoshop, and video production skills
  • Track record of successful management of large social accounts (500K+ followers) and/or for major brands or organizations
  • Proficient in the use of social media analytics including Facebook and Instagram Insights, X/Twitter Analytics, bit.ly and Google Analytics
  • Experience with social media content management tools such as Sprout Social and Hootsuite
  • Passion for art history
  • Arts and culture or nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Capacity to work flexible hours as needed, sometimes on weekends or after hours, to address urgent or emergency communications issues.

COMPENSATION RANGE:


  • Pay Range: $110,000.00 - $120,000.00 / Annually
  • The advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role. The advertised pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage for any specific employee. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.

Location Requirements

At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
